Step 4: Add Contacts to a List

  • The last step of this process is to add the contacts that were just uploaded to 1 or more lists.
  • Lists are an excellent way to segment your customers within your email program.
  • For example:
    • You may be sending emails to prospective customers with certain messaging to convince them to purchase your product (or whatever your company counts as a successful conversion).
    • Once the email recipient makes a purchase, you may want to remove them from your “prospective customers” list and campaigns, and add them to your “customers” list and any email campaigns targeting individuals who have already trusted you enough to purchase something.
    • You can have a multitude of lists for reasons ranging from their zip code to the specific conversion action they took to anything under the sun if you have data for it.
    • Note: Contacts can be in more than one list at once, and probably should be if you drill down far enough.
