Generate Referrals From Professionals

Accounting professionals such as bookkeepers and CPAs almost always have clients with IRS issues.

They have two choices, (1) To try and handle the IRS issues by themselves or (2) Refer their client to a professional who specializes in IRS tax problems on a regular basis.

  • Bookkeepers are not allowed to practice before the IRS because they have not taken the EA or CPA exam. The majority of CPA’s, although licensed by the IRS, do not have interest or experience managing IRS disputes. They would be content referring their clients with an IRS issue to a specialist who handles IRS problems on a daily basis.
  • These professional referral sources are crucial for your success in the long run because you can continue to generate referrals from them after the initial one. Your successful resolution can be an amazing testimonial from the referring CPA or EA to other potential clients who may be skeptical of your success rate resolving IRS issues.
  • Almost all bookkeepers, CPA’s and tax professionals have clients with tax issues. These clients are best represented by an expert who did not prepare their books or tax returns. Somebody independent of these returns and books should be representing the client in front of the IRS regarding their tax issue.
  • The last person who should represent the taxpayer with the IRS regarding a tax resolution issue is the tax preparer, bookkeeper, or CPA who signed the actual tax return.
  • Remember, people refer business to others who they like, know, and trust. Any professional who refers you a potential client should be sent a handwritten than you letter regardless of whether the potential client ends up using your services. Professionals who refer clients that use your services should be awarded with a gift.
  • Be wary, some state laws may not allow for you to provide gifts to referring professionals, so check to make sure of your state laws.
